How To Stop Hating Mondays

Dreading going to work on Monday? Or Tuesday? Or Wednesday? Here's how to start making the most of what you've got and stop wishing your life away

Like every other week, this week is full of opportunity . But only if you choose to see it.

I don’t know what this week holds for you. Like I said – it’s full of opportunity. But I promise you that if you spend your week counting down to the weekend you’re never going to see it.

If you believe you’re going to have a shitty week – you are. If you tell anyone that will listen that you hate Mondays – you’ll hate Mondays.

Do we have to hate mondays?

I think it’s sad that society tells us that it’s normal to hate weekdays. That only the ‘lucky’ ones find work they love.

I wish I was saying this as someone who has found their dream job and can’t wait to get out of bed on Monday mornings – but I’m not.

As you may already know, I’m still a student and have absolutely NO idea what I want to do with my life once I graduate. I feel lost.

But call me crazy for at least wanting to believe that I don’t have to settle for something that doesn’t make me happy. I will not fall into the trap of believing that weekdays are just time fillers between weekends.

Over 70% of the days we live will be weekdays – why not at least try enjoy them?

All you have to do is choose to see it.

No more ‘Mondayitis’ and no more ‘TGIF’. Wake up and ask yourself what you can do to make today the best it can be. You may not be exactly where you want to be in life, but you’re exactly where you need to be.

I’m not going to lie, it’s not going to be easy to change the habit of thinking that Mondays suck. But it’s worth it.

There will never be another day like today – don’t let it pass you by.

  • I love this post! Last Tuesday and Wednesday were kind of crappy days for me, so Thursday I woke up and said, “Screw it. Today is going to be a great day. I’m going to make it a great day.” An hour later I found out my score on a midterm that put the biggest smile on my face and at work one of my coworkers showed me a video of some french guys dancing in high heels to the Spice Girls in front of various spots in Paris. It was literally the best thing I’d seen all week and made me so happy! I firmly believe our words create our reality. Thank you for reminding me of this Sam! Also, I remember being an undergrad, ready to graduate and being so scared because I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. The thing I found out was that most people feel that way, they just don’t admit it. I was lucky enough to get to take some time and realize I wanted to be a therapist. Follow your passion! Hope you have an amazing week!

    • Hi Alex,

Thanks so much for taking the time to write this huge comment I really appreciate it! I definitely agree – if you wake up and say ‘today is going to be so shit’ then it will be and if you say ‘today is going to be great’ then it will be. You see what you are looking for! And that video of french guys dancing in high heels sounds too good haha I’m googling it as soon as I finish writing this!

      Congratulations on your midterm!
