Welcome to Part 4 of my 5-part Momentum Series. In this series I’m going to teach you how to create momentum in your business in just six weeks without burning out.
The cause of burnout isn’t long work hours, poor work-life balance, demanding clients or rushing to meet a deadline. Being all-in on your business isn’t what causes burn out either.
You can have momentum in your business without burning out even if you’re balancing your business with a full-time job, caring for little ones, a health condition or all of the above.
That’s why today’s episode is all about the hidden cause of burnout.
When you know how burnout actually works, you won’t be scared to create momentum in your business. Even if you’ve got a busy life to keep up with outside of your business.
I haven’t burned out in six years, even though burnout used to be the bane of my existence. And even though I have a successful business and have three little ones to take care of when I’m not working.
I’m going to teach you my secret to never burning out again. All you need to do is hit play.

Episode
[00:00:29] Sam Laura Brown: Okay, this is part four of the five part momentum series. So when I was deciding what to share with you in this series, and it’s all designed to help you as a perfectionist, who’s in the early stages of business, how to create momentum in your business in just six weeks. So by the end of this year, What would it look like to do that?
[00:00:50] Especially if you only have a few hours to work on your business each week and you don’t want to burn out and you’ve got a full time job or kids or a health condition and other things going on. How do you actually create momentum in your business? So with this series, I really, I just knew I had to talk about burnout specifically because one of the major fears that stops perfectionists from going all in on their business.
[00:01:16] From treating it like a real business. I talked about that in part two and why you need to make the shift from hobby business owner To real business owner, even if you’re not making any money yet, or you don’t have a real business yet You need to make that shift if we are scared of burning ourselves out We won’t let ourselves be fully committed.
[00:01:34] We won’t let ourself put in a full effort. We won’t let ourselves actually make the decisions we need to make to create momentum because we’re scared of what that momentum will mean for our health, for our relationships. for everything in our life. We are associating subconsciously momentum with something really negative, especially if you’re someone as most perfectionists are, if you’re someone who has burnt yourself out before, or maybe you haven’t burnt out and recognize it as that, but you have been so focused on your business that you completely neglected things that were important to you in your life.
[00:02:12] Maybe you’ve lost really important relationships. your health and other things because you didn’t know how to actually be all in on your business and also be all in on other areas of your life. And it’s really important as well for perfectionists to understand about burnout because of this fear of wasting effort that we have.
[00:02:33] So just to briefly share with you what you need to know about this, when we’re in the perfectionist mindset, And this is all about wanting to avoid shame. Where there is perfectionism, there is shame. And we try to do things perfectly so as not to create any more shame because we already are living with an unbearable amount.
[00:02:53] We don’t want any more of that. So we try to do everything right. Do nothing wrong. That leads to a lot of avoidance, a lot of procrastination, a lot of overthinking. So where we are in that perfectionist mindset, It’s not a mindset that you have to be in forever. I can teach you how to overcome perfectionism and shift out of that mindset when you are in that mindset and it’s not your fault when you’re in that mindset though, and you are wanting to go all in on your business.
[00:03:17] What is also going on is the association that your brain has between effort and inadequacy. If you are putting an effort into your business, it feels like you aren’t good enough. You should just be able to naturally do it. You shouldn’t have to try so hard and be such a try hard. If you’re smart and you’re intelligent, success should come naturally and easily.
[00:03:41] So there is this fear of having to put in a lot of effort because that means there’s something wrong with us. There’s this fear of wasting effort. and putting effort into the wrong thing, especially if you are needing to not spend time with your family so you can work on your business or needing to deprioritize other things so you can prioritize your business in that moment that we are just scared of getting it wrong because of that shame.
[00:04:10] And so it’s really powerful to recognize that and also Our human brain is just wired to conserve energy, to not want to expend any energy that it doesn’t have to. And if you are a perfectionist, it means that you probably have a lot on your plate. We love being busy. We love having a full plate. So you’ve got a lot going on in your life, and that means that it’s easy to justify not putting in a full effort in your business, because you’re tired from your job.
[00:04:41] You’re tired from looking after your kids. You’re tired from everything else that’s happening, your health condition, whatever you’ve got going on. You were tired. So of course. You don’t want to put a full effort into it. And it feels like you don’t have that energy to put into it. So what I want to talk about with you in this episode is really why it’s safe to create momentum and that that won’t burn you out.
[00:05:06] And that naturally when you create sustainable momentum, And I’m going to be teaching you this inside PGSD, supporting you with it, helping you through any shame that is stopping you from creating momentum, any indecision, any mistakes, all of those different things. I’m going to be supporting you to create sustainable momentum in your business.
[00:05:26] And this won’t burn you out. So why are you burned out? That’s what I want to answer in this episode. You are burned out because you’re a perfectionist. You are burned out because of that perfectionist thinking. It’s not because of how much time you might spend on anything or how much effort you might be spending on anything.
[00:05:47] It is about how you were thinking and what that thinking is making you do. So if you are burned out or have had burnout before, or you’re scared of burning out, if you have momentum, then here’s what you need to know. What is burning you out is the overthinking. What is burning you out is standing still.
[00:06:12] What is burning you out is being half in on your business. Oh my god, it is so much more tiring to be half in, dabbling, seeing how it goes, treating it like a hobby. That is so much more. Energy consuming, they’re being all in. That half in half out wishy washy energy is draining. Being all in with momentum is energizing.
[00:06:37] Putting pressure on yourself is burning you out. Having no momentum to lean on when you hit a hard time is burning you out. It’s the perfectionism. that is burning you out. And when you overcome perfectionism, you will never burn out again. And this isn’t, and I want to share this as well, like, I know I can feel a lot that you could say, Oh, never burn out again.
[00:07:01] Especially if it’s something you’ve been struggling with for a while. You just have such a big fear around burning out. Maybe you’ve burned yourself out in your full time job. Maybe it’s been in your business. Maybe it’s been in a health goal that you have, but it just feels like something you don’t have full control over.
[00:07:16] And what I want to share with you is that was me. I was that person that I was constantly burning out, particularly for me. It started really, I’d say when I was a uni student. So when I was doing my law and finance studies at uni and a diploma of French, I was doing more than a full time load. That wasn’t the problem.
[00:07:37] The workload wasn’t the problem. The difficulty of the subjects wasn’t the problem. The problem was my thinking, the perfectionist thinking. And that was what burned me out. I was so scared of looking dumb and of feeling dumb that I left everything to the last minute so that if I didn’t do well, I could say, well, You know, I only did it the night before, so of course I didn’t do well.
[00:08:03] And because I did do well on most of my assignments and exams, I got to feel even smarter because well, I only did it last minute. I only just crammed for one night and that whole perfectionist paradigm that I was in of leaving things to the last minute so that I could feel smart and not feel dumb no matter what happened and how things went down, that burned me out so bad.
[00:08:28] It was just the perfectionist thinking. It felt so vulnerable to just do it ahead of time early and easily. Because then if I didn’t get the grades I wanted, I couldn’t blame the circumstances of how I prepared. I couldn’t say, Oh, it was because I did it the last minute. I couldn’t say anything like that.
[00:08:48] It would be like, Oh, I’m not good enough. This is what as perfectionists we’re trying to avoid. The realization that our best isn’t good enough. And that’s only because when we’re in the perfectionist mindset, we are not seeing our best as something that can actually be improved. So for that example with uni.
[00:09:06] It felt like I’m either smart or I’m not. And I’ve been praised all my life for being smart. And so I want to keep being smart. So I’m going to construct things and do things subconsciously in a way where the only outcome is me looking and feeling smart. It wasn’t even for anyone in particular. I didn’t really have any pressure on me at all from anyone else to get good grades, not from friends, not from family, just the pressure I had on myself.
[00:09:29] To keep appearing smart. It felt like part of my identity and I didn’t want to lose that part of my identity. So I left things to the last minute. I cramped. I do all nighters at the university and I just got to also feel so smart of like, Oh, I’m the kind of person who could work well under pressure. I could get an A.
[00:09:48] And I only did one day of study and that mentality, when I took that mentality, that perfectionist thinking, when I took that with me to my business, it created so much burnout, especially because for so many things, there wasn’t a last minute to come. There wasn’t a deadline for so many important things.
[00:10:12] And so that avoidance could just continue and continue and continue. The avoidance is what’s burning you out. Avoiding the things you need to do. Avoiding answering the questions you need to answer. What should I work on? That’s a question you need to answer. I can help you answer that question for sure.
[00:10:32] But there are questions like that you need to answer that you have been avoiding. Decisions you need to make that you have been avoiding for fear of getting it wrong. You’ve been overthinking it, researching it, brainstorming it, trying so hard to get it right. You want to be successful. You’re smart.
[00:10:47] You’re intelligent. You know you have the potential to be successful. And yet, you’re in avoidance mode. You aren’t doing the things you need to do. You were trying so hard, but you’re spinning your wheels. You’re not doing the most important things. You’re not using your time well, and you can feel it. It’s not like anyone needs to tell you that.
[00:11:07] You feel like the day that I had or the hour that I had to work on my business, I didn’t use that well. I didn’t even know where to start. I just kind of dabbled around or you spent too long on something or you got something done, but you know, there’s another thing you need to actually be doing. That is what happens when we’re in that perfectionist thinking.
[00:11:27] That is what burns us out. The standing still, the spinning our wheels. When you have momentum, you won’t be burned out because you won’t be in that perfectionist thinking. And it’s so, and I love teaching this as well inside PGSD, It’s so easy to actually begin shifting out of that thinking and really in a short space of time, have a dramatic shift, a positive shift in the way that you think about yourself, your business, time, so that you know, the time you have, even if it’s only a few hours a week, you can trust that you’re going to use that time.
[00:12:07] Well, you don’t have a lot of pressure on yourself to use that time. Well, it’s not coming from this place. If I have to use every minute perfectly. You know what you need to do. You believe in yourself to do it. You’re willing to do it bad. You’re willing to do it imperfectly. You still, of course, want to create high quality work, but that desire doesn’t stop you from creating any work at all.
[00:12:31] You’re willing to let yourself complete things. See how it went. evaluate and try again. When you have momentum, that is how you will be in your business. You’ll be showing up. You’ll be putting yourself out there. You’ll be doing the things you need to do. You’ll know what to focus on. I’m going to talk in a second about three things to do.
[00:12:53] If you don’t have a lot of time and energy to work on your business and you’re worried about burning out, I’m going to talk about these three things, but you’re going to know what you need to when it’s going to get done. You’re going to have Time that you’re not working in your business, which for you might be a lot of your time You might be like I only work a few hours a week on my business Or I only work on saturdays on my business But you are gonna have all the other time not feeling like oh, I should be doing something I’m, not sure when i’m gonna actually be able to work on my business or like all of that mental chatter Will be gone.
[00:13:24] You will know In your work time, you’re doing what’s needed. You know what to focus on. You have enough time to do it. And then in the other time, you’re able to rest without guilt. So let’s talk about the three things that are going to help you. If you don’t have much time and energy to work on your business, all of these things are going to help you inherently to overcome perfectionism so that you never burn out again.
[00:13:48] And I was going to say, by the way, I haven’t, as I mentioned, burned out for many years now, but at university. It was at least every semester for sure at exam block time, but usually about twice a semester. So about four times a year, I would just be a complete zombie for a week. I was so burned out from the procrastination, so burned out from the avoidance.
[00:14:14] And then the last minute rush, the last minute hurry to get everything done. And then in business, for my first few years in business, I was I was constantly like that. I remember the first launch that I did for an online course that I had called Dream Habit, which is actually, you can get it inside PGSD and many of our PGSDs use it to create habits like waking up on time and things like that.
[00:14:35] But with that course, I remember the launch. I was so burned out. So like, Oh my God. So burned out. I worked on that for so long. I was working full time as an accountant when that launch happened and I was just absolutely emotionally energetically spent from doing that. And also it was a courageous thing to do.
[00:14:58] That was the first time that I was actually selling anything as part of my business. It was three years into my business. I finally had done the work to overcome perfectionism enough that I could actually sell something and The burnout from that was just wild. And then for the next two years, whenever I do a launch or have any big sales effort in my business, I would burn out.
[00:15:21] And this made me like, it was already challenging enough emotionally to sell. And this made me not like selling even more because I associated it with burnout and with just falling off with all my health goals, neglecting my relationship with my husband, Steve. We weren’t married at the time, boyfriend, girlfriend, but I wasn’t able to show up for him.
[00:15:44] I just wasn’t able to do the things I needed to do in the other areas of my life. I’d have to then have a reset day and constantly be like resetting my life and getting myself together. And I just got so tired of that. And then I did the work to overcome the perfectionism That was making me burn out.
[00:16:06] And to actually learn, and I’m going to show the three things, but to actually learn how to still be a human with emotions. And it’s not like there’s no ups and downs in my business or intensity in my business at certain times, but the perfectionist thinking that was burning me isn’t there anymore. And so I’m able to work on my business in such a sustainable way, which is so important for me now as a mom of three little ones, I work three days a week.
[00:16:35] I want to be able in those four days when I’m with my family, I want to be able to be present with them and not burned out and not thinking about my business the whole time. That’s so important to me. And so me learning how to never burn out again, And that becoming my reality just because of that work on perfectionism.
[00:16:55] It’s not about Work life balance and just you know, take more breaks and all the advice out there about how to not burn out Not helpful Most of it is just treating the symptoms. It’s really about overcoming the perfectionism that is burning you out. So these three things are really going to help with that.
[00:17:17] So first of all, focus, knowing what to focus on, having a focus. Perfectionist when it comes to deciding what we want to focus on, especially if you only have a few hours. or a couple of days to work on your business per week that it can feel really hard to know what to focus on with that time. You don’t know where to start.
[00:17:40] You want to make sure you use that time super well. And so we could just end up in this situation because we don’t want to choose the wrong thing that we choose everything. And you have multiple different things you’re trying to work on at once, which is especially hard if you’re only working a few hours a week, like so hard if you’re putting 10 percent of your effort into this.
[00:18:00] 10 percent into that, 10 percent into that, 10 percent into that. It is really hard to create any momentum that way versus a hundred percent into one thing. But if you haven’t got much time and you don’t know where to start and you were just finding that it’s just so common. So if you were just fighting that you either have all these little things you want to do, or you’re, You don’t know at all where to start, so you’re doing nothing.
[00:18:27] That you’re still thinking about it, you’re researching your brain, so you’re trying to figure out what to do, where to start. You’re thinking about it, but you aren’t letting yourself decide what to focus on for fear of focusing on the wrong thing and it being a waste of effort. So what you’re going to do inside PGSD, and I talked about this as well in part three, You are going to have a momentum project.
[00:18:48] If you’re familiar with PGSD and the concepts I teach, I’ve also talked about having a growth goal, which is a 12 month revenue goal that is set a little bit above what you believe is possible so that you become the person who can achieve it. You are invited to grow into being the person who can achieve that goal.
[00:19:06] And the way you do that is by overcoming the perfectionism that stands between you and that goal. And the goal is designed inherently to help you do that and have you create a new reality without having to put a lot of pressure on yourself and without burning yourself out. So you are still welcome to have a growth goal for sure.
[00:19:23] So some PGSDs, it depends where you’re at, some PGSDs will have a growth goal. and a momentum project that they’re focused on. And some will just have a momentum project. So if you want to have a non financial focus, maybe you’re in the early stages of your business and like how it was for me in the first three years of my business, I was not in any position mentally to start selling things.
[00:19:48] I like making any money just felt way too far away. There was other work I needed to do first. I needed to start showing up and being able to put myself out there. Like those were the first steps for me. I needed to develop some of those muscles before I would be able to sell. So you might be in that situation where you don’t want to have a financial goal yet for your business that doesn’t feel comfortable.
[00:20:11] It feels too early. So you can just have a momentum project and inside PGSD I will teach you how to set a non financial momentum project that will create momentum for you in your business. Or you might have a financial related momentum project.
[00:20:35] Sam Laura Brown: Or inside PGSD, you might have a financially related momentum project. So it might be a financial amount you want to make, or it might be signing a certain number of clients, for example, that would have you achieve a specific financial goal that you have, for example, your growth goal. So having this will allow you to know exactly what to focus on.
[00:20:56] A lot of people feel like they don’t have enough time. to work on their business and they really want more time for the business, especially if you have a full time job, for example, and you have maybe like an hour a day to work on your business. If you can find the energy and then maybe a few hours of the weekend, if that is you and you are feeling like I just need more time to work on my business, what I want to offer to you is that could be true for sure.
[00:21:24] But if you don’t know what to do with your time, having more time, um, won’t help. You need to be able to know what to do with your time or you will just waste any extra time you have. And you’ll feel even more guilty and even more behind because now you have more time and you’re still not using it well.
[00:21:43] So sometimes you have to learn this the hard way. I definitely did. When I was at my full time accounting job, I thought like once, I have full time work hours for my business. I will be successful. That’s the thing that’s stopping me. Everyone I look up to, they’re full time in their business. I’m full time in accounting.
[00:21:59] That’s why I’m not successful. So I transitioned. I left that full time accounting job at my corporate career. I went to a receptionist job. that was just afternoons, four till 8pm. So I had pretty much a full day each week or each work day, like five days a week, seven days a week, essentially. Um, I had a lot of time to work on the business.
[00:22:21] I went from not having much to having a lot and I wasted that time like crazy, like crazy. I spent about five months just editing Pinterest graphics, researching, procrastinate learning. because time wasn’t the issue. Lack of time wasn’t the issue. Perfectionism was, and it was only once I left that job. I was like, Oh, I wanted it to be lack of time.
[00:22:48] That was the problem. It was not. And so maybe you need to learn that for yourself too. If you can get extra time for your business, amazing. But if you’re in the situation like I really need extra time and I really don’t know how I’m going to get that extra time, or you just feel like if you’re going to have extra time for your business and you don’t know what you would do.
[00:23:04] do with that time because you currently have time and you don’t know what you would do with that time and you find yourself wasting it, jumping from thing to thing, dabbling, procrastinate working, all those different things. You’re checking email, you’re checking social media, you are just perfecting things and polishing things whether it’s graphics or your branding or your website.
[00:23:25] You’re You just get stuck on decisions, brainstorming sessions, researching things. If that is you, you’ve got to solve first for what you’re going to do with your time. What you do with your time matters so much more than how much you have. That is the biggest needle weaver, knowing what to do with the time you currently have available.
[00:23:45] Then, when you get more time, You’ll be able to use it really well. So that’s the first step and having a momentum project a focus so you know exactly what to do with your time and specifically as well with the momentum project it is going to have in built into it things that help you to overcome perfectionism.
[00:24:07] So instead of having you have to do things perfectly so you can complete your momentum project successfully you will be creating within that. a high volume, low pressure plan so that you can create freely and feel like you have room to do some bad things because everything you do doesn’t have to be good.
[00:24:27] And this won’t just be you like thinking that way and having mindset shifts, but we will be setting up your project. So it actually feels safe circumstantially. To let yourself do some bad work. So having a momentum project, one that builds the identity that you need, the self image that you need, as it relates to the thing you’re doing, whether you’re a coach, a real estate agent, a performer, whether you are a writer, a copywriter, a photographer, no matter what kind of business you have, you need to elevate yourself image around that to actually believe you’re great at what you do, that you’re an expert in that, or you are expert enough, and your identity as an entrepreneur and business owner as well.
[00:25:07] So that will all be baked in there as well with the Momentum Project. Having that to focus on is going to make such a difference because that solves for so much of the perfectionist thinking that is burning you out. Two other things that are going to be super helpful as tools, really practical tools.
[00:25:27] The first of those is clean rest. Clean rest is what I call it. When you are resting without feeling guilty, you can be doing active things in your clean rest time. Like for me and a lot of my clean rest time, I’m looking after my three little ones, but clean rest is when you are resting in your brain, specifically resting about the business in your brain.
[00:25:48] You aren’t feeling guilty. I should be working right now on my business. I wish I had more time to work on my business. I’m not sure when this thing is going to get this, it’s going to get done. All that thinking is burning you out. And so even if you are getting some physical rest, you’re not getting the brain rest you need because of the perfectionist mental chatter and mental drama that is going on around rest.
[00:26:12] And this is something we coach on a lot inside PGSD. Because rest is such a challenge for perfectionists. We want to feel productive all the time. We associate our lovability with productivity. We’ve been praised for that. We have been applauded for that. And so we want to be productive. It actually feels like productivity is what is safest for our survival.
[00:26:37] And so there’s some rewiring to be done to create safety and rest. And part of this, and I’ll teach you it all inside PGSD, but part of this, Is really beginning to understand how rest makes you more productive That was how I was able to sell myself On clean rest when I first came up with the concept because I was a student I was constantly procrastinating and because I could study whenever i’d always be like, okay.
[00:27:03] Well, I’ll study tonight. I’ll study tomorrow I’ll study like all the time. I was just like every every minute i’m awake is the time I should be studying But then I was barely studying at all and I was constantly feeling guilty about it If I was at a party, I was like I could be studying right now And then I wouldn’t actually study when I had the time to study the guilt was making it so hard to work Productively and effectively when I actually had the time so cleaning up Your relationship with rest and creating clean rest Is going to do so much to help you with Not burning out again and having that be something that’s not part of your reality And when it comes to this as well with clean rest that it’s not about like, Oh, you need, you need rest to have work life balance and not burn out.
[00:27:50] It’s about what clean rest specifically does to help you overcome perfectionism and the perfectionist thinking that is burning you out. Your relationship with rest, the one you currently have is burning you out. So we change that relationship with rest. We change. whether or not you burn out and have you never burn out again or what people teach, you can get more rest.
[00:28:17] But if you keep your thinking about rest, you feel guilty when you rest, you feel so restless all the time when you rest, like you don’t actually get to mentally switch off. Even if you have the best work life balance in the world, you are still going to burn out because you still have the perfectionist thinking about the rest and about work and about yourself.
[00:28:36] The third thing that is so practical and helpful with this is power planning. So power planning is a productivity method that I created. I teach you the full process inside PGSD. It’s simple and anyone can learn it. It is a calendaring method that gets your perfectionist mindset working for you instead of against you.
[00:28:56] It is designed for your perfectionist brain and it took me so long to figure this piece out of two because when I was burning out all the time, I was just like, I didn’t have any boundaries around when I was working and when I wasn’t working, I had a long to do list. I was trying time blocking. I tried everything to try and be productive.
[00:29:18] And when I finally got like, Oh, it’s actually not me. That’s the problem. Just the tools that I’m using, even though they work so well for other people, they are making me get in my own way. They are triggering my perfectionist all or nothing mindset. They are making it easier to overthink things easier to procrastinate.
[00:29:35] And I just need to figure out how to actually create a tool that helps me overcome the perfectionism rather than exacerbating it rather than triggering it. So I’ll teach you power planning inside PGSD. And specifically I want to talk about a couple of things, how it helps with burnout. So the first is that rest, as we just discussed, is so, so much easier when you have a clear plan on when you will be working on your business, you know exactly what to work on in that time, and you believe you can actually do that plan.
[00:30:11] No matter what’s going on in your life, no matter how tired you are. You have set that plan up in a way where it’s actually realistic instead of idealistic. Perfectionists plus calendars typically equal idealism. We are planning for our perfect self who has all the energy, who never needs to eat, who never needs to sleep, who doesn’t need time to switch between tasks, who never falls behind, who never gets off track.
[00:30:37] And it’s really hard. It’s really hard. And it feels like shit to try and follow a calendar like that. When you are power planning, You won’t be taking that approach. You’ll be using your calendar as a tool for kindness. And that kindness is the kind of kindness that makes you more productive, not less.
[00:30:54] That removes the pressure in a productive way and that helps you show up and follow through and get shit done in a way you like, in a way that you actually feel good about. So again, a big piece of the power planning is that you will be clear when you are power planning, you will be clear on exactly what you’re going to do in your business time.
[00:31:14] You will know that it’s going to be worth the effort because of the way you will power plan. This is ingrained into it when you follow the steps. You will know that what you’re doing with that time is actually going to add up to something. You will know where to start. You will know what to spend your time on and you will be able to trust yourself to actually follow through with it.
[00:31:32] Even if you’re someone who has a history of forgetting to look at your calendar, a history of not following through with your plans, like that is who I help. The person who has a history of avoidance. Because of the perfectionism or the overworking because of the perfectionism putting way too much in your plate over scheduling yourself.
[00:31:51] So you actually have a plan you can follow. So when you’re resting, you have to be like, Oh, I’m not sure when I’m going to be able to work or if I get it done, you will know. You will know. And that’s how I’m able to get such great quality rest because I know come my work time, here’s exactly what I’m going to be doing with my time.
[00:32:07] The important things are all going to be taken care of. I have buffer time in case shit happens or something unexpected comes up. I have wiggle room. I have strategies in place. that mean that even when life’s life is happening and life is lifing that I could still get shit done. I could take extra time off if needed.
[00:32:26] That flexible structure is so supportive for a perfectionist brain and with PowerPoint, you will have that plus the clarity, flexibility plus clarity. It’s the most amazing combination. Also when you’re power planning, it is a self awareness tool so that you’ll be able to spot perfectionism and overcome it.
[00:32:46] And I’ll teach you how to do this inside PGSD and therefore not burn out. Again, you’re a perfectionist, sorry, you’re burning out because you’re a perfectionist. Your perfectionism is what’s burning you out. The overthinking, the procrastination, the standing still, the avoidance, the overworking. They’re being overcommitted.
[00:33:04] That’s what’s burning you out. It’s not giving a full effort that’s burning you out. Because when you give a full effort in a way that actually creates momentum, it doesn’t take much time. It doesn’t even take, like, it takes less energy to have just something clear to focus on. to have the rest needed so that when the time comes to do the work, you can actually do it to just get it done and then go back to resting.
[00:33:29] That is so much less effort than the indecision, the procrastination, the avoidance. That is what is training. So I hope you found this episode incredibly helpful. I hope you understand more now about why you’re burning out, how to actually stop burning out, and also, The Momentum Project, Clean Rest, Power Planning, how all of that combines to help you do this practically.
[00:33:56] So you don’t just intellectually understand, oh it’s perfectionism that’s burning me out. But you actually have practical tools to do that work. It’s not about you write done is better than perfect on a post it note. I do not teach that. I teach you practical tools that rewire your brain so that you aren’t in that perfectionist thinking anymore.
[00:34:16] Without having to do a lot of work on it, you aren’t in that perfectionist thinking. So you’re able to show up. You’re able to get shit done. You’re clear on what to do. You have flexibility. You have self compassion. I know as perfectionists, we’re like, I don’t really care about that. But that inner critic, it’s not nice to have it.
[00:34:36] It sucks when you’re actually not in that perfectionist mindset anymore. You won’t be beating yourself up, judging yourself for everything you do, judging yourself ahead of time. You haven’t even done the work yet, but you already know it’s going to be so bad. You won’t have that inner critic. You’ll be creating your highest quality work.
[00:34:54] It’ll be the easiest to focus, to get shit done, to actually mentally switch off. It’s life changing. This is why I’m so passionate about it. Okay. Why I won’t stop talking about it. I want this for you. I want this for you so bad. You don’t have to be scared of burning out. I know how to help you stop burning out and never burn out again.
[00:35:17] With that said, tomorrow I’m sharing part five of the Momentum series and we will be opening enrollment for Perfectionists Getting Shit Done at the same time that that goes out.
